David Riesland
David Riesland is a senior Electrical Engineering major at Montana State with a focus in optics. He spent 5 1/2 years calibrating systems and component level electronic repair in the Navy. He has worked alongside Dr. Joe Shaw previously at Montana State and will be doing the optical and mechanical design of the optical front end as well as systems characterization. -
Nick Burgard
Nick Burgard was born and raised in Bozeman and is in his senior year and working towards a degree in Computer Engineering as well as a minor in Computer Science. He spent 4 years working satellite communications in the Army, which gives him a strong technical background. He will be doing the programming and code work that is necessary to integrate the instrument into a functional system. -
Zach Sharon
Zach Sharon was born and raised in Butte, Montana spending much of his time outdoors taking photographs and climbing. He is an Electrical Engineering major at MSU who has also completed the requirements for a degree in Film/Photography. Zach will be doing systems characterization, as well as helping with mechanical and optical design.

Dr. Joe Shaw
Dr. Joe Shaw is a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Montana State University as well as an Affiliate Professor of Physics. He is a native of Bozeman, Montana having also lived in Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Utah, Switzerland, and Japan. Dr. Shaw received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alaska in 1987, a M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Utah in 1989, and a Ph.D. in Optical Sciences from the University of Arizona in 1996. Dr. Shaw spends his time developing optical sensors used to explore the natural Earth environment and serves as the co-chair of the SPIE Polarization Science and Remote Sensing Conference as well as numerous national and international conference and award committees.
