MSU’s College of Engineering offers a Ph.D. in the following research areas:

Interdisciplinary Projects Foster Creativity

Our degree programs are characterized by interdisciplinary interactions between faculty and students in the COE’s five departments and across campus. The program fosters creativity and enhances student experiences by actively encouraging research across disciplinary boundaries while providing depth in a research and curricula specialty area.

One-to-One Mentoring Reflects MSU's Supportive Culture

COE graduate students can expect direct involvement with their research advisor in their graduate programs and the support of other faculty within the College. Several courses common to the Ph.D. degree contribute to graduate student interactions across boundaries, and cross-campus interdisciplinary graduate research opportunities are significant.

MSU is Among 2.3% of Universities Classified as "Very High Research"

The COE’s faculty members contribute to MSU’s Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching recognition as one of 108 research universities with "very high research activity." Just 2.3% of the universities that the Foundation classifies are in this classification and include Yale, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, the University of Washington and Oregon State University.
