Scholarships Available from M&IE

Scholarships are available in all three curriculums (ME, IE, MET) and are based primarily on academic excellence, although quite a few are financial based. Six to ten departmental scholarships and six to ten COE scholarships are awarded to ME and MET students each year. IE students are awarded six to ten departmental and approximately two to four COE scholarships annually.
Eligibility varies. There are scholarships for each level Freshman to Senior.

Scholarship stipends vary from $250 to $5000. More important than the stipend is the recognition of having earned a scholarship. Prospective employers look very favorably on our scholarship students!

Selection criteria vary. Some are based entirely on scholarship (grade point) while others consider financial need.

Most scholarships require only the brief College of Engineering scholarship application form. These are available in the M&IE Department office and the Dean of Engineering office. Some of the more selective (and more prestigious) scholarhips require detailed statements of your professional goals and philosophy. Details on some of these scholarships are given further on in this document. If you are among the top 10 of the freshman, sophomore or junior classes, you are encouraged to compete for one of these scholarships.

Procedures

Scholarship application forms for continuing students are available in the M & IE office and the Dean of Engineering office. Applications are to be turned in to the Dean's Office before the deadline date of March 1 each year. Remember that members of the scholarship committee may not know you personally; hence, your written statements are of the utmost importance. In addition to academic performance, candidates will be evaluated on extracurricular contributions to the college or department, professionalism and ability to communicate your ideas.

Students are encouraged to also explore eligibility for need-based scholarships. Each year approximately 100 need-based scholarships are awarded through the Financial Aid Committee -- some are program specific but many are open to engineering students. Nearly all need-based scholarships include academic performance as a criterion, but donors have also specified need as a part of the criteria. To be eligible for need-based scholarship consideration, students must have filed their Financial Aid Form (FAF) for the upcoming school year and have it evaluated by Financial Aid prior to the deadline of March 1.
