The competitiveness of industrial companies depends on their ability to design products that creatively meet customer needs, devise innovative manufacturing systems capable of producing high quality products cost effectively, and managing both development and manufacturing processes to maximize the utilization and potential of organizational resources. Members of the M&IE faculty are actively engaged in advancing our fundamental knowledge of design and manufacturing processes in education and industry, and in developing tools to enhance performance. Current areas of interest include: lean manufacturing, lean product development, concurrent engineering, design education and cognition, quality control, human factors, and bio-inspired design.
