I recently talked with a Motorola engineer who told me that Motorola has
about 10,000 software engineers, with a turnover of about 10% per year.
( I don't know what they do, perhaps go to other jobs in Motorola or
elsewhere.) This means they hire about 1,000 software engineers each
year plus they require about 2,000 more in the next year!
Every PC, Macintosh, engineering workstation, Cray supercomputer
and all other general purpose computers account for less than 1% of all microprocessors sold worldwide.
Your average car has about 15 microprocessors.
