Faculty Profile

Dr. Cady received his BSEE from the Pennsylvania State University in State College, Pennsylvania in 1966, the MSEE degree from the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, California in 1970, and his Ph. D. from the University of Canterbury, Christchurch New Zealand in 1980. He worked for the General Electric Company in Erie, Pennsylvania and NOAA in Boulder, Colorado and Byrd Station Antarctica in the three years following his graduation from Penn State. After teaching for ten years in New Zealand, Dr. Cady joined the MSU electrical engineering department in 1980. He teaches computer and microcomputer hardware and software engineering and is also actively involved in electro-optics and electro-optical system engineering. His current research areas include applications of computer generated holograms and the application of digital signal processing techniques to semiconductor laser stability. Dr. Cady is keen on outdoor activities, including chasing the elusive trout and the wily wapiti in the waters and mountains of the Big Sky State. He is also active in search and rescue, is a state-certified EMT-B and the chief of the Ft. Ellis Fire Department. He has been an amateur radio operator for more than 35 years and holds the call sign KE7X. Emergency and public service communications, international radiosport contesting, and chasing DX holds his interest in this hobby. He is an American Radio Relay League official and Emergency Coordinator. He was named the American Radio Relay League Herbert S. Brier Instructor of the Year in 1988 in honor of his commitment to teaching newcomers to the amateur radio ranks. Recently promoted to full professor in electrical and computer engineering, Dr. Cady has been honored with several teaching awards in the past few years including MSU_Bozeman Mortar Board Professor of the Month (November 1998), MSU Alumni-Chanber of Commerce Award for Excellence (January 1999) and the Phi Kappa Phi Anna Krueger Fridley Award for Distinguished Teaching (February 1999).
