Julian Collins is the associate director of the EMPower program in Montana State University’s College of Engineering.
Collins was program coordinator for American Indian Research Opportunities at MSU in Bozeman prior to joining the college. Before that, he was a full-time substitute teacher who coached football and basketball teams at St. Labre Catholic Indian School in Ashland, Mont.
Collins has a bachelor of arts degree in sociology from Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH, and has received his Masters of Education degree in adult and higher education administration from MSU-Bozeman.
As associate director of EMPower, he coordinates programs to serve underrepresented minority students, including research opportunities, scholarships, recruitment and retention, and outreach efforts.
He also partners with Native American communities in the northern Rockies and the northern Great Plains regions. These partnerships have led to MSU's position among the nation’s most successful universities in graduating Native American students in engineering and computer science.
