4.    Students will receive training specific to the research lab or center, and have a chance to apply basic skills learned in their course work.

5.    The Assistant to the Dean of the College of Engineering will oversee placement of each recipient into one of the facilities.

6.    Facilities include: (Other facilities may be approved for an internship.)

9.    Reports:

            Each scholarship recipient:

  • will submit a written report to supervising personnel at the conclusion of their mini-internship; information required will vary depending upon the individual work duties

  • will comment upon their experiences with respect to how it may (or may not) have changed their attitudes towards their education and career goals

Year Two Requirements:

1.    Students who receive a 2nd year scholarship will be required to mentor younger students (primarily freshmen and sophomores).

2.    Mentors will be assigned 1 or 2 students based upon general background and interests.

3.    Mentors are expected to maintain regular contact with their students. (This involves weekly communications [via telephone or-email].)

4.    Mentors and students will attend a monthly meeting in a relaxed, social environment with food and refreshments served. At these meetings, mentors will report on relevant activities and issues.

5.    Approximately 3 hours per month are expected for mentor participants.

6.    CSEMS mentors will be required to submit a brief report to the Assistant to the Dean of the College of Engineering containing a log of activities and contacts with their students. Mentors will also be asked to comment upon their mentoring experiences with respect to their education and professional goals.
