LAND SURVEYOR QUALIFICATION
A Department of Civil Engineering student can satisfy educational requirements for registration as a Land Surveyor by taking courses in surveying, law, and related fields beyond those required for a Bachelor of Science degree.
Upon graduation, a student with at least 11 semester credits in surveying techniques plus at least 16 semester credits in the principles and practice of surveying can become a Land Surveyor Candidate. Some of the courses required for qualification as a Land Surveyor Candidate are also required in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering Technology, and some of the courses can be used as professional electives in those curricula.
Courses for Civil Engineering Students
It is also possible for a student who does not obtain a Bachelor of Science degree to qualify as a Land Surveyor Candidate. The student must complete at least 60 semester credits, including at least 11 credits in surveying techniques and at least 16 credits in the principles and practice of surveying.
Courses for Non-Degree Students
A Land Surveyor Candidate must complete three additional steps before becoming a registered Land Surveyor: First, the candiate must pass the Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT) exam. Second, the candidate must document four years of combined office and field experience. Three of the four years must be progressive experience under the direct supervision of a registered Land Surveyor. Third, the candidate must pass the Land Surveyor (LS) exam.
